SABINE COUNCIL ON AGING, INC.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT
APRIL 28, 2011
Last week the Sabine Council on Aging partnered with the Sabine Tourist Commission to provide bus shuttle services for the Bassmaster Elite Tournament held on Toledo Bend Reservoir. This major fishing tournament brought large crowds to Many and the lake area and we’re proud to have been able to help make the event a success. Our drivers are to be commended for the excellent job they did throughout the weekend. It is through cooperative efforts such as this that the Council on Aging can form strong bonds within our community and we thank the Tourist Commission for allowing us to help out.
Our annual Volunteer Appreciate Day celebration was held on April 19th this year and I believe that a fun time was had by all. Good food, a Zumba demonstration, and special appreciation gifts made the event festive. So much of what we are able to accomplish at the Council on Aging is provided and aided by our volunteers and we enjoy setting aside a day each year to honor them. Thank you volunteers!!
Our next Food for Seniors distribution will be held Friday, April 29, 2011. Each recipient will receive 80 lbs of food provided by the Catholic Charities organization and distributed by the Council on Aging every other month (the “even” months). There is a waiting list at this time, but we take applications daily. Qualifying seniors are added to the waiting list and when openings are available will be moved to the active list. For more information call or come by any Sabine Council on Aging site.
Each of our sites celebrated Easter according to the interests of the participants with parties, special treats and holiday decorations. Our site managers and support staff do an excellent job of keeping our seniors entertained and happy. Holidays provide a great opportunity to liven up our everyday lives and give each of us time to reflect and enjoy the good things life has to offer.
In March we served 1,240 Congregate meals at our meal sites and delivered 4,186 meals to Home Bound seniors. We provided 98 units of homemaker service for our seniors, 217 hours of Caregiver services, and 81 contacts have been made for Outreach, Information & Assistance. We provided 585 units of transportation, 535 units of wellness, and 1,586 units of recreation.
Be sure to check our May calendar for current events and special activities. A complete calendar, listing all the regularly scheduled activities is available by calling our office 256-4140 or checking out our website (www.sabinecoa.com ).
Respectfully submitted,
